Nova Corps – WIP 1

Nova Corps 1

Here are the guys before I started working on them again this week

I started painting these guys a while ago now. I have been intending to use them as proxies for MERCS while I wait for the MERCS ReconĀ game to arrive at some point in the future. Between these guys and the IMEF Marines from my Reaper Bones pledge I figured I would be able to provide enough unique minis that I could get some games going with my friends.

When I finished Kyra last week I decided I would pick these guys up again and continue where I had left off, which was primed and then airbrushed blue all over. Two of the minis had had some grey painted on the cloth under the armour plates, but otherwise they were all basically blank blue slates.

Now I have done a base coat of grey on the cloth parts of all the minis and done a wash to bring out all the details. I also started painting up the blue of the armour and the grey of the cloth for one of the guys. I’m not super happy with where they are at, but I’ll see how they go. I did a drybrush of a lighter grey on the weapons which looks good and I bought a Games Workshop blue glaze to try out, so I’ll see how that pans out soon. I also picked up a Vellejo green that better suits what I want to do with the pipes on the backpacks.

I put a darker shade of grey on the cloth areas with a view to lightening them back up with successive layers of grey

This is how they look at the moment... A bit dark and dreary after the blue / black wash

I haven't tried a pre-made glaze before so I'm keen to see if it's worth the cash. The green is for making the tubes on the backpacks look like they are full of green energy goo

Stay tuned to see how these guys evolve; I am experimenting with a bunch of techniques without really having much direction, so anything could happen!
